Between
landing a part on the fan favorite show Nikita
and a role in the highly anticipated film The Vow,
due out February 2012, 2011 proved to be a pretty good year
for Dillon Casey. Looking back on the past year and
forward into what his feature holds, PCM's Allison was eager
to speak with Casey and get to know the man behind Sean
Pierce.
He teased what was coming up on Nikita when new episodes
return January 6 at 8 PM on The CW, laughed at his own actions
around acting greats like Sam Neill and Rachel McAdams and
even shared a few of his New Year's resolutions, all while
laughing and being even more charismatic than we all would've
imagined.
We'll let his answers speak for themselves, but we recommend
keeping an eye on this guy. He's definitely one to watch.
So be sure to read below to find out everything he had to
share... including how Maggie Q may be the one teaching
him how to be a Navy Seal!
--
Can you tease us a bit about where we might find Sean
and what he might be getting into when the new episodes
of Nikita pick up?
I think this is the one where I'm supposedly naked. Maggie
[Q]'s been telling people that I'm pretty much naked the
entire episode, so that's true. I mean I'm wearing... one
piece of clothing, so not fully naked. But basically Sean's
going to hear Nikita's side of the story finally.
He goes on the offensive, he goes after Nikita and the
result of it is that he enters her world - I'm not going
to tell you how! - and he discovers her side of the story...
and he's becoming very uncertain of where his loyalty is,
so he's going to have to finally make a decision on where
he stands.
And he's going to be naked and covered in oil while he's
making this decision [laughs] ... and tied down to
a chair.
Sean's a pretty complex character. Do you tend to find
yourself in sync with him or do you generally read the scripts
and find yourself surprised at his actions and decisions
and beliefs?
Well, he's definitely a complex character. He's conflicted
on all sides, but what I've been able to do with him and
always the direction that I get when I start to waiver or
teeter on a certain scene is just: the number one thing
for this guy is to protect his mother, protect his family.
He's starting to figure out that Oversight's not necessarily
the good guys. I mean, he's always been suspect of Division,
so I think that he's been able to trim the fat and just
say, "ok, somebody's trying to kill my mother. I need
to protect her." That's his number one mission; that's
his priority. So through it all he has gotten feelings for
Alex, but I think he has been able to drown that out and
put that to the side until he is fully able to make sure
his mother is safe.
I hope it's coming across. I just try to think of one thing
at a time and hopefully the audience can figure it out as
it goes.
Knowing what you do about this coming season, if you
could give Sean one piece of advice what would it be?
Have more of a sense of humor. Everything in Nikita
is life and death [laughs].
You were upped from a recurring character to a series
regular recently and I had read that people on the set love
to tease you about how long Sean will be around, does the
series regular title help you with that situation now?
No, because they didn't start bugging me until I got the
series regular title! [laughs] Since I got that,
they say "oh, yeah, you're a regular, but that doesn't
mean anything. It's just a title."
You know, they started bugging me, saying "don't sign
a lease" or they'd tell me they were writing a script
and the producer would email me saying "you know, we
fought for you man. I'm really sorry," but that wasn't
even until like episode 9, so I was well into the cast by
then. There's a whole initiation process to it, I think.
I had to earn my part.
Is there an aspect of Sean that you'd like to see developed
as the show continues?
Yeah. I really liked when he tried to seduce Alex and he
failed. I thought that was interesting. I didn't expect
that.
I wasn't really sure how it was going to come across. When
I read it in the script, I thought that it would be a charming-
well, it was a nice charming scene, but when I actually
saw it, it just looked like the guy failed miserably. I'd
like to see him try more of that type of stuff.
He seems to take himself really seriously, so I like these
moments where, although he does stand up to Alex, not many
people do, I kind of like when he's broken down a little
bit.

Now the cast of Nikita is just amazing. How are things
between everyone? Has there been any memorable moments you
can share with us?
Everybody's been so nice and so welcoming. There's been
a few funny things...
When I first joined the show, in the first episode I remember
when they were teaching me how to use a gun and basically
within like two minutes of doing the scene, this guy came
up to me and he handed me a gun and he showed me how to
use it and then they said action and I was just expected
to know how to shoot this thing.
And after doing the take, I felt so cool 'cause I was like,
now I know how to shoot a gun. That's amazing. And I was
walking off and I come up to Lyndsy Fonseca and she says
"let me see that gun that you're using" and I
went to hand it to her and I said "careful, it's hot"
and she looked at me like I was crazy. She was like "yeah,
I know, I've been here for a year, you just learned how
to use this thing. I know what I'm doing." That was
funny. [laughs] It kind of brought me down a few
pegs.
And also there's another time when, actually in an episode
coming up I'm setting up to do a shot with a sniper rifle
and I'm laying on the ground in the sand and Maggie just
comes bursting out of the darkness and fixes my feet and
tells me exactly how to do it. I'm thinking, how does this
girl know how to do these things? She fixes my feet and
goes darting off into the darkness and says "You're
a Navy Seal! Learn how to do these things." [laughs]
I said, "No, I'm not a Navy Seal, I'm an actor!"
I looked at the guy who's in control of the guns and he's
like, "Yeah, she's right." [laughs] They're
all kind of helping me, making sure I look the part.
Sounds like you're learning a lot. You've done TV before,
but what else are you taking away from your Nikita
experience?
Well, in a lot of the shows that I've done, when I was
a lead on a show - I've been a lead on a Canadian show,
I've been a regular on other shows - I've always, always
worried about getting fired. You know, that's one of the
things that you try so hard in this business to get a job
and as soon as you get a job, you're scared out of your
mind that you have it. You can fall into the trap of just
thinking, "okay, if I don't do the right thing, I'm
going to get fired," or "everybody thinks I'm
ruining the show," so with this show, I'm just trying
to have fun with it and take it day by day.
And the good thing is, I'm working with a bunch of amazing
actors. We're all pros, we're all veterans, and I'm just
trying to think "I deserve to be here." And, who
knows how long it's going to last? So, I'm just trying to
really enjoy it.
