Prophets of Science Fiction - Premieres November
9 at 10 PM on SCIENCE
Ridley Scott, the creative genius behind legendary Hollywood
classics including “Alien,” “Blade Runner” and “Gladiator,”
comes to SCIENCE this November with the world premiere eight-part
series, PROPHETS OF SCIENCE FICTION. An auteur of science
fiction himself, Scott goes from behind the camera to on-air
guide to explore the relationship between genre and the
constantly-evolving worlds of science and technology. From
Jules Verne and Isaac Asimov to George Lucas and Phillip
K. Dick, the dreams of storytellers often become the inspiration
for researchers seeking mankind’s next transformative discovery.
“For years I have been fascinated with the connection between
creative inspiration and scientific progress,” said Scott.
“Often there is an attempt to separate the worlds of art
and science, when in reality the two are inseparably linked.
I am thrilled to work with SCIENCE on PROPHETS OF SCIENCE
FICTION, which will be the definitive exploration of science
fiction’s ability to spark real-world genius.”
Each episode of PROPHETS OF SCIENCE FICTION focuses on
a visionary sci-fi figure whose spark of imagination changed
our reality. The premiere episode explores the celebrated
author, Mary Shelley. Widely credited with creating the
science fiction genre, Shelley’s seminal work, Frankenstein,
provided a springboard for the future study and development
of organ transplantation, cardiac defibrillation, electric
batteries, and many other modern advances.
Using iconic movie clips and cutting-edge animation, each
episode of PROPHETS OF SCIENCE FICTION features a bold future-forward
on-air look that is consistent with Scott’s big-screen legacy.
Scott and his group of cinematic and scientific experts,
including famed director, Paul Verhoeven, and renowned theoretical
physicist, Dr. Michio Kaku, dissect the genius of Shelley
and other science fiction titans; such as George Lucas,
Isaac Asimov, Jules Verne, Phillip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke,
H.G. Wells, and Robert Heinlein.

Chef Hunter - Series Premiere November 10 at 10
PM on the Food Network
In this new six episode docu-reality series, culinary recruiter
Carrie McCully provides a few promising out-of-work chefs
the opportunity to audition for a coveted Executive Chef
position in some of the top restaurants around the country.
In each episode the select chefs are put to the ultimate
test as the restaurant’s general manager and owner challenge
the chefs’ culinary skill, business acumen and tenacity
required to be an Executive Chef. The chosen chefs then
experience the most pressure-filled night of their lives,
as they get the chance to run the restaurant for the night.
For one Chef, getting the job could change their own fate
and the fortunes of a top restaurant.
In the season premiere, the general manager of an acclaimed
restaurant in Los Angeles calls on Chef Hunter Carrie McCully
to fill the executive chef position that recently became
available, to keep the reputation that the restaurant has
worked hard to earn. After looking at hundreds of applicants,
the search has narrowed to the restaurant’s top three candidates.
After a quick face-to-face meeting, each of the chefs is
asked to create one original appetizer as well as a signature
hamburger for the menu.
Appetizers are one of the most profitable items on the
menu, so as the chefs put their unique spin on these dishes,
they must keep food costs in mind. After the chefs present
their dishes, he decides that one chef is not the right
fit for his restaurant. The remaining two chefs are handed
the keys to the restaurant for one night as they are given
the task to create their own menu, work with the staff,
and serve a packed house of the restaurant’s best customers.
After a night of enduring the pressure of running the kitchen
and interacting with customers, Carrie and the general manager
evaluate the finalists, with one chef earning the title
of Executive Chef at the exclusive restaurant.

The Last Play at Shea - Premieres November 11 at
9:30 PM (ET/PT) on SHOWTIME
Through the prism of Billy Joel’s extraordinary career
and blue collar perspective, THE LAST PLAY AT SHEA chronicles
the waning days of Shea Stadium through a tapestry of performance,
historical documentary and personal journey while at the
same time providing audiences with a pop-culture snapshot
of a seminal era in New York history. Set against the backdrop
of New York City from the early ‘60s to present day, the
film features interviews with players, performers and exclusive
concert footage—featuring special guests like Tony Bennett,
Roger Daltrey, Steven Tyler, Garth Brooks and John Mayer,
among others.
Upon its theatrical release, Rolling Stone said, “Watching
the crowd at Shea scream along to every word of his songs
is a powerful reminder of just how important his music is
to many generations of Americans,” and The New York Times
remarked, “Guaranteed to put lumps in the throats of longtime
New York residents…the struggle, the teamwork and the glory
are captured in this wonderful film.”
Long-time Joel friend and former band mate, Jon Small,
directed the concert footage, filmed at each of Joel’s sold-out
Shea Stadium Shows held on July 16 and July 18, 2008, before
a combined 110,000 fans, and were the last performances
ever at the historic stadium. After 45 years, two Mets’
World Series victories, and a concert that introduced the
Beatles to America, the last section of Shea Stadium was
torn down and replaced by CitiField.

and a Half Men") and Emmy® Award-winner Kristen
Johnston (“3rd Rock From The Sun”).
In TV Land's latest sitcom, divorce attorney Holly (Johnston)
introduces her newly-single client Stuart (Basche) to his
new roommates – ladies’ man Phil (Faison) and homebody Haskell
(Knight), who share an apartment which Holly owns. Things
start off a little shaky when the two bachelors have reservations
about living with clingy Stuart, but Holly is right across
the hall to help them avoid any catastrophes. To top it
all off, Holly's assistant, Eden (Stables), doesn’t exactly
let her professionalism get in the way of prying into her
boss’s personal life.
I Hate My Teenage Daughter - Series Premiere November
30 at 9:30 PM (ET/PT) on FOX
The series is a new family comedy starring Jaime Pressly
and Katie Finneran as single moms, best friends – and former
nerds – who fear their privileged and overly indulged daughters
are turning out just like the mean girls who picked on them
in high school.
Annie (Pressly), who was raised in an ultra-strict, über-religious
household where she had little-to-no freedom, pretty much
allows her daughter, Sophie (Kristi Lauren), to do whatever
she wants. Annie’s best friend Nikki (Finneran), once an
unpopular, overweight social pariah, is now a pretty Southern
belle who also allows her daughter, Mackenzie (Aisha Dee),
to do as she pleases.
The moms have given the girls everything they asked for
and everything they never had: clothes, money and self-esteem.
The unintended consequence is they have created two mean
girls just like the ones who tortured them years ago. The
series also stars Eric Sheffer Stevens as Annie’s ex-husband
Matt who wants to be a good parent, but doesn’t know what
that even means; Kevin Rahm as Matt’s brother Jack, a father
figure to Sophie who’s meddling would annoy Annie more if
she didn’t have such a crush on him; and Chad L. Coleman
as Gary, Nikki’s ex-husband who also tries to help raise
his challenging daughter but the couple’s complicated relationship
often makes his involvement more difficult.
